I'm getting shut down this year! Usually I hunt pretty hard for elk in the beginning, then if it looks like I'm not getting anywhere, I'll cut my losses and go for deer. This year I hit the elk pretty hard, haven't seen any, then got sick (fighting a cold) when I decided it was time for deer...probably the smarter thing to do is say screw it and go get a deer and just get more sick but have meat the rest of the year...but I've been taking care of myself instead since I really hate the idea of being sick on Thanksgiving!

Nice buck!

You horrible animal murderer. How could you... Just kidding nice deer. I wish the season was longer we have them all over the place in NC where I live. The deer are starting to be smaller than they used to be because we have so many but so few places for them to be.

We are very lucky in Montana. A one month season, tons of deer, elk, antelope. Plus special tags, if you can get one, for moose, bighorn sheep, mtn goats etc. I can hunt elk just a half hour drive from my house. Very nice. But of course it's still looking like I won't be getting anything this year...

Season closes on Saturday. I might motivate on Friday or Saturday for one more try.

And yes, meat is murder.

My Deer season is about to open up for four days and then close. Then it will Open up Dec. 8th and stay open until Feb. 17th, awesome season but no real big deer in this part of the country.

I'm calling whitetail...not mulee...

And Redbay, I went to high school not far from you. Bethlehem, Fl. Just northwest of Bonifay. Where 177 & 2 meet up is Bethlehem community. Played Ponce and Defuniak in sports, did a bit of hanging out at Vortec Springs back in the day... Doing productive community enrichment stuff...

Huntin'

Wow, I guess our season is quite long compared to yours. We start bow season in September and then rifle season opens the middle of October in most of NC. I think central NC just opened for rifles last weekend. Never the less good luck with the Elk this year. Enjoy it all you can.

With those antlers, or the angle, for some reason it's hard to tell...muley's antlers have branches on the branches, if that makes sense. Not really a main beam...any tine can have a split. Whitetail has one main beam with single tines coming off it it. No splits or branches off any tines/branches.

No, we're pretty close to what you've got in NC. Bow season in September, rifle around the 20th of October. I just didn't include bow since I haven't managed to get out with my bow...ever.

Why am I all of the sudden singing "its a small world after all" in my head lol. and I know exactly what "productive community enrichment stuff" you are speaking of...

Edit: and to keep this post on topic, Been hunting the past four days... didn't manage to do anything except lose my dogs twice, but the ol' yoter stood up well in the woods.

I ran into some guys from...someone down south, last week hauling a huge buck out of the woods in Colorado. When I saw him walk up to the parking lot with antlers on top of his backpack, I wasn't sure if it was a small elk, or giant deer.

Giant deer.

I'm not hitting it too hard this year, but if I get something I'll post photos!

I ain't got a pic to share nor a buck to brag about. But Saturday was opening day of now season here in WV. I was lucky enough to bag a fairly large Dow about 45 mins before sunset.

Today Monday I seen a decent size buck but was unable to get a shot or to see exactly how large it was. Ima guessing a 6 point to be honest.

Once I get a buck no matter the size I will post a pic of it lol.
