L43 4 speed shifter issue

That's what I'm running, I think. The stock 4 speed in my '81? Mine kicks out of 3rd gear, and very rarely 4th, when I let off the gas, but I just work around it for now.

Does anyone know what the set screw on the bottom of the side case does on one of these transmissions, there is a screw with a slot for a flathead and a retaining nut to tighten it for some kind of adjustment inside, here's why im asking, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f131...t-work-256877/

I'm bumping this thread instead of starting my own because I didn't take enough pictures for a complete write up on the bushing swap, so I'll threadjack this one since this was the most helpful thread I found. For the L43 you need (4) PN# 33615-20021 rubber bushings for the transmission mount of the shifter ball joint and (1) PN# 33548-20010 shift lever bushing. Its a super simple repair, you unscrew the four screws holding the shift boot plate, then undo the two bolts holding on the shift lever ball joint and the entire assembly just pulls through.
Those are the two bolts holding on the shift lever ball joint and assembly, you can see in these two pictures how much play I had.
Once that's out, you clean it up and remove the remnants of the shift lever bushing from the end of the shift lever. This is all that was left of mine.
Then you clean everything and re-coat everything in grease and reverse install it. I was surprised at how simple the whole thing was, and it makes a HUGE difference; I can finally tell I'm upshifting from 3rd into 4th and not from 3rd into 2nd or reverse. You can see the amount of play I had in neutral before and after.

And this is all the slop I have in 3rd (I forgot to take a before picture):

Got bushing from Crawler for my L43 Would like to know procedure in which I can replace it without using a so called professional. Thanks, Matt P.S. Is there a link on replacing this with a 5 speed tranny?

Oh man, I am SO sorry Matt, I got super busy and I never got any notifications that anybody posted in this thread. So the four soft rubber bushings go on either side of the bracket that the shifter is mounted into. So it should go transmission*bushing*shiftermount*bushing*bolt. You can see it in this photo.
Again, I'm sorry and I hope you got it fixed on your own. I got hit by the life freight train.

How's it going everyone. I believe I have the L43 transmission. It's a 4 speed with the shifter off to the side... I can't seem to locate the Back-up switch on the transmission. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
