I dropped the oil pan tonight on my 22r (unknown year engine installed in an 81 longbed 4x4) to remove the crappy cork/rubber pan gasket (its had a very slight leak) the PO installed when rebuilt. I’ll be using FIPG when reinstalling the pan, NO GASKET. Anyway, I noticed the front thrust washer had some slight play in it while poking around under there. The one facing rear is solid (see image pointing at front thrust washer with screwdriver tip). I’m thinking of checking the torque on all the bearing caps tomorrow and/or popping that one main bearing cap off and checking it out further. I’ve installed a number of these 22r’s over the years, but actually never disassembled/assembled/rebuilt one completely myself. Maybe it’s time I give it a go.. How doomed is this engine? It runs like a top now, but only had about 1500 miles on a rebuild by PO. Thanks
