On my 81 hood, the bracing underneath is coming apart from the hood itself. It looks like the bracing is 'glued' to the underside of the hood..? Is this the factory method? Has anyone had to fix this and what did you use?

It would be cheaper to purchase a new hood. I have seen them on eBay and in the classified sections of various Toyota WEB sites. The factory braces are glued and welded.

 

well unless i could find one local, shipping would be a killer. i don't see much evidence of welding, just full length 'glue' along each side of the brace. the passenger side is coming loose but the driver side is fine.

 

glue it back together with "Liquid nails" just make sure the surface is clean, done this in the past it works and its cheap...

there are no welds on the hood .. it is all folded seams on the edges and glued supports . the original "glue" is just basically a seam sealer ..

Epoxy bonding it back together is easy and cheep ..
2 part epoxies are very common in the automotive industry , and avaliable at any automotive parts store
