That's it, I will document all. I think I'm going to just pull the cab and bed off, start with a little motor and brake work, and reassemble the truck with good parts this weekend. PULL A PART FTW!! Anyone know where to get a wire harness? Should I just look for a good used one?

HEY! my battery get's held in with a bungie cord lol it works great too

if it wasn't there then my battery would ride against my A/C and it would burn a hole in the side of the battery.....yea i forgot to hook up the bungie..popped the hood after about 30mins of driving..and i had battery acid in places it shouldn't have been..so i cleaned everything with engine cleaner and it's all good...and i patched the hole in the battery with an old toyota fuse box lid filled it up with acid and we're allllll good

 

I bought this 1980 back in March. Replaced the welded-locked rear axle (it blew a hole in the housing when the gears came apart), added 5.29's front and rear with Aussie lockers in both ends. Rebuilt the front axle completely with Longfields. Vehicle was already equipped with a TG 5" lift, IFS truck steering box (excellent frame reinforcement) with highsteer. Bilstein 5100s up front, Rancho RS9000s in the rear.
Transmission is a W56 5-speed matched to a Marlin low geared t-case sitting on Marlin's crossmember skidplate. Had to replace the trans with a used unit, works fine now. Also had to lengthen and shorten the driveshafts (previous owner never finished the project). Fixed some nasty death wobble by tightening everything down real good.
The truck has a great 22R tuned very well, with excellent oil pressure and oil control. It doesn't burn or leak oil, doesn't flood or stall under hard use. I'm impressed with how well the truck runs in both hot and extreme cold weather. I suspect the engine is an LC unit, but I can't be sure. The carb is perfectly tuned, aided by an electric fuel pump on the frame rail. Cooling system, charging system, starting system, heating system, and all the misc. electrical accessories are in excellent working order.
The tires are co-op grip spur bias ply models, 35" by about 10.5" on 16" wheels. Looking to replace them with Super Swamper Q78s. The stance of the truck is aided by 1" wheel spacers. Interior wise, the nice seats are from a 2nd gen mini truck, custom locking center console, nice kenwood amp w/3way speakers (all previous owner installed)
Stoked to get it out on the trails this spring!
**oh, and I put a 1982 grill on the front, but kept the 1980 round headlights. I think it's sharp looking

Hey Oktoberyzing, is that your truck there in the pic? That thing is great! I was really close to getting one of those two tone blue/white but it was in bad shape. I'm glad I didn't because otherwise I'd really be struggling for cash right about now.

 

This is my 3 yr build. Replaced all seals and gaskets, tar and foamed the frame, added 40 inch Monster Mudders to a 4 in Skyjacker lift and 2 in Body lift, with Flowmaster 50 series attatched to a custom exhaust. Custom fabricated ladder bars and a Triple front stabilzer. Rebuildt 350 sm block chevy, bored .040 over, extreme cam, 650 edelbrock 4 brl carb, HEI ignition, custom interior, Kenwood stereo cd system.

having that 350 would be sweet, but with your wheel offset it looks like your tires rub at full lock to lock on the springs....how's your turning radius?
overall a sweet truck
and go with high steer and an IFS box to get rid of that push pull steering...it will be a lot better

 

Yepp, she's mine. i got really lucky when i got this truck, both times, haha. it was the first truck i ever had. i sold it(STUPID STUPID STUPID). and then later bought it back. it is now sittin in my yard waiting for me to come up with the money to fix the cab and replace the windshield. one day i will get to that and drive her again. until then i will just cry every time i see my darlin sittin in the yard with a busted windshield and dented in cab. Soon after i fix the cab and glass. i am goin to fix the small rust spot on the passanger side of the bed(nickel size), replace the bed floor which is rusted perty good, and paint her back original color.

I figure I can get more advice if I post this rig here..
I am thinking about buying this rig but it needs a ton of work.. timing chain and timing chain cover. The timing chain wore a hole in the cover and leaked coolant into the system, waterpump, clutch, radiator, tons of bodywork. Front axle needs a rebuild (seals, bearings etc.) and a few other minor things. I put an LC header in it and did a full tune up recently.
This is a good friend of mines rig and I want the deal to be fair. He is thinking $1000.00 for it and I thought I would post up some pics and see what TY thinks.

Well since you're not back east or in the midwest I think you can find better in California. The Bay area (if it isn't too far) or especially So-cal can yeild better quality trucks.Especially since this truck doesn't seem to have many redeeming qualities..Doesn't run well?, interior/exterior is in bad condition..For me I'll spend a little more for well running rust free, all body panels attached pickup, yes they're still out there..good luck

 

wait for a better truck; that one is going to rust on you fast, unless you go buy about 10 cans of rustoleum, and go to town.
