Looks like yours....or looked like yours. You wouldn't recognize it now. It's been repainted to the original dark gray (143) and the interior has been completely redone and now looks brand new except for the leather shift boot which I still have not been able to find. I'll post pics once it's finished by next week!

Good god man! That's very cool. I can't wait to see it. Yeah, you may need to look into something else for that shift boot, if you want a "restored" look. That or find a leather-worker-seamstress type to make one..

I want it to look almost like it did when it was new. All I have left is to clean and paint the underside, replace the shiftboot, and re polish or re chrome the original wheels.

Good. I'd love to do the same but didn't start with so clean a truck as you, and don't have funds right now. It's a very cool thing to do. I'm glad you're planning on keeping the original wheels. I really like those wheels. I was looking for some for a while, but finally just went with some cheap black steelies, but I think if I ran into some of those original ones for cheap I'd probably pick them up.

I actually wasn't planning on putting them on the truck after the rebuild but my dad convinced me and it probably will look nicer and more orginal. Now I just need to see if I can get away with just polishing them with something from the store or if I'm gonna need to rechrome. Any suggestions?

Just wait till you see it now. It has been repainted to the original color, interior is like new (except for the leather shift boot), and well you've already seen the engine compartment. The only things that are not original right now are the tires and rims and I had a spray in liner put in. Oh and a new Weber

My 1982

Sweet trucks on here fellas.

Here's my 1982. I found it here back in May: http://ifnd.ws/1i

It has 140k miles on it now. AFAIK it's stock all over, with 30x9.50 tires. I've looked at the model and VIN, and it's an SR-5. I like it a lot, even if it does have a hard time getting up hills.

Very nice truck! Is that the original paint job? Or did they remove the original stripes? Those are the chrome rims mine came with but definetly not in as nice condition as those. Thats why I need to recondition them.

Sure are some beautiful trucks being posted lately. The 4WDs just have such an aggressive look, begging to see some dirt...

Thanks for the comments, guys. I definitely love the truck, and I am constantly getting offers for it (which I kindly decline ).

It's definitely been painted once or twice.

I had an extra carfax report, so I ran it on the truck, and it was very interesting. The miles are original. It was bought and lived most of its life in Henderson, NV (nice and dry) until 1996, I think, when it was sold to a dealer in VA with 95k on it, then to another person in VA. Since then it had one other owner in VA (the guy I bought it from), and here it is! Very little rust, and a dry and cracked interior.

My future plans for the truck are:
  • Interior overhaul (I've seen some beautiful interiors on this thread)
    • New seats – Possibly these in "spice": http://ifnd.ws/1m
    • New dash – Anyone know where to get these? All I can find on eBay are the ugly covers.
    • New door panels – I think a local guy can rebuild mine
    • Just bought a new shift knob from this guy: http://ifnd.ws/1n
  • New 22R – possibly this one: http://ifnd.ws/1o
  • Strip & repaint (looks clean in the photos, but it could use some work)
  • New front corner lenses – Again, I can't find these anywhere. Any thoughts?
I think that's it.
