Ok, well then I have a problem cause there is no roasting going on. All my other yota that I have had 94,91,88 have had crazy hot heat.
This one and my 83 from back in the day never did.
I do have some air leaks coming in the cab, but nothing crazy. The heat that I do have feels great in the two areas, it just does not do much.

 

To check your fan clutch, let it warm up to a little over operating temp, maybe put a piece of cardboard over your radiator, open the hood so you can see the fan, turn off the key and watch the fan, if it spins more than a couple turns, the clutch is bad.

 

I wonder if your heater core is a little clogged. On road trips in the winter, I usually need to open the side "ball" vents to let cool air in the cab, it gets so hot. That's with the fan off, with it set to fresh air (I never use recirculate).

 

If thats the case then I bet it is a little clogged. I will check the fan clutch to day. Thanks Elger!!

 

It takes about 10 minutes (now that it's cold out), but my heater will bake the cab! But the heat control slider works (hard to move though), so it is controllable.

I installed a cheesy used stereo a couple of weeks ago, and while I was routing new speaker wires, I dislodged a long flexible cardboard tube, maybe 1.5" diameter that was over or behind the glovebox. I need to get in there at some point and see if it is for the passenger vent next to the window or the defrost connection on the right side. It's definitely loose in there now. Does anyone know if that's for the vent, or the right side defrosting port?

 

Your saying you have airflow out of the vent below the radio all the time? If so, that is wrong. You have a dislodged blend door or cable. If you set it on defrost or heat there should be no flow out of those vents. It sounds like you have mutiple issues with you heating system.

 

If you are talking about the loose tube I mentioned in the last post, there is no change in airflow. Just a loose, disconnected flexible cardboard tube duct. I think it is supposed to route fresh air to the right side passenger vent, but I was more involved in stereo installation (!), so I didn't bother to try and figure it out.

 

fat kid, yes I have cold air out of that vent on heat or defrost.

 

The logic behind blending heat on that vent (newer vehicles) is to defrost/defog the windows in the doors. I probably would not take too much clever engineering to modify it to do that. Are those air conditioned, or is that only the lower middle vents (My truck had air conditioning, compressor not belted).

 

The loose 1 1/2" tube is for the defrost vent on top of the dash. There is is similar tube on the left side as well. If they are in bad condition you can by new tubing at an A/C supply house, you just have to cut it to the proper length.
