Nice toyoder, been tryin to get my hands on a cheap hilux in a long time, unfortunately I live in new england and just about every yota here is rusted out, especially this time of year, and if it ain't, it's a quarter of a million dollars. lol, and im in a family where everyone drives fords, my dad made fun of me for the last truck I drove because the rear fender were gone, and I laughed at him when his truck wouldn't start in -15 weather, and mine purred like a kitten with a blown head gasket, blown exhaust, and the air box, and intake being held together by electrical tape, gorrilla glue, and duct tape, and then I sold it for $3000. ............oh but the A/C worked great.

What a great project truck. That floor will really need some work but it really has some potential. My truck is a 1980 LWB as well and I LOVE IT. I blew the 20r soon after I got it and put in a 22r, then blew that engine and got so aggrivated I posted it for sale on here. All you fellas looking for them and I had one for 1500.00, with 2 spare engines lol. However nobody bit so I calmed down and started working on it again.

Look forward to watching the yellow beast grow and welcome to the boards!

Not really sure what all I'm going to do to it. We are going to do a carb rebuild and have the gas tank emptied and cleaned, fab up some new floor panels and either get a new bed or fab up our own. Other than that, not really sure what we're going to do to it. Its going to be a crawler so it'll need some good tires. And we're going to paint it but that's all we have lined up for now.

Nice truck, reminds me of my first yota , 79 4wd longbed. that truck went everywhere with no problems. I bought it almost new in 1980. less than 10,000 miles on it, a relative owns it now.

Nice truck! Welcome to the club. I need to find some round headlights for mine, it is a better look on these trucks.
Got power steering? I don't. I'm very curious to see if a girl could drive my truck. I know some could, but definitely some couldn't. Once you're up to even 5mph it's fine, but trying to parallel park the thing or pull out of a tight spot is crazy. I was actually a little sore after my first week driving it but I must have finally built those muscles up 'cause I don't get sore anymore.

nope, no power steering. But I know I can handle it, I'm not afraid to brake a nail or strain a muscle.

It looks like we found similar old Toys!

I have a similar starting point.

The previous own played with Toys and decided to move on and clean out the truck and spares. So for a Thousand bucks I picked up this old truck with a pile of spare chunks in the back.(spares set of axles, and odd parts). It's just an old Toy that he obvously had fun with but it looks like he did a decent job on things he worked on, so it's not a cobbled up mess, just needs some love.

It's a neat old truck that has already been a blast in the snow. I do have question on the interior. Were bucket seats an option in 79? They look very original along with a small console. No extra holes and the color of the interior all seems to match.

I'm nwo starting to keep an eye out fo a Samari that I could use the extra axles, and parts on. Ha!

The SR-5 version had bucket seats. It should also have a tach in the dash and down below in a separate panel a volt meter and oil press. guage. My 81 is a SR-5 and it came from the factory with these items and sunroof and air conditioning. Looks like you have a fun trock, The first generation pickups are the best , In my opinion.

those buckets are actually not original to our car, they are subaru bucket seats that the guy got for free. i think i'm going to sell them because he gave me the original seat too and it fits the car a lot better- the subarus have too thick of a back so you have to sit far forward in it and it really just makes it uncomfortable. plust they have no rails, and the old bench does.

That's the strange thing. No tach (although I'd like to add one) or other gauges. The console which is a toyota part and appears to be original is short (between the seats only).

I was around a bunch of these little toys in 79 and 80 and don't remember seeing buckets in a 79 before and while the console seems to be at home and a nice fit doesn't match any pictures I've seen either.

It seems like a buddy added a tach to his new 79 at around $75 for a factory tach. Are tachs still available to add?

Ha! the tach is the least of my worries. We have to sort this truck out before I can trust it. I had to tow it the last 30 miles of the 120 mile ride home because of a bad connection at the fusible link. In the darkness I didn't find it on the road but as soon as I got some light was able to wiggle the wires and everything came back to life.

The SR5 models I was around all had some graphics on the side. The paint on this one appears to be original and has one graphics passed the little "4 wheel drive" on the tailgate.

A few little leaks and the temp gauge doesn't seem to work or maybe the thermostat has failed open or is missing.

At -10 and lots of other work to do, the investigation is a slow process.
