funky cooling temp need help
i've been reading all day and have a few ideas but thought i would throw it out there and maybe recieve some help... it started out when i bought my 83 it would over start to over heat at high speeds...got new aftermarket radiator, flushed it new tstat problem solved 2 months later it acted like it was trying to over heat again so penzoil super flush, new tstat, new upper and lower hose, and new fan clutch, seemed great started to over heat first run well i forgot to burb(something new to me) but did that and perfect. 5 days later went on 1 hour drive no problems didn't drive about 4 hours headed home started to over heat hit the first gas station 1 gallon low all i had was water no problems after that, flushed it today a few times running about an hour each flush, after i burp it there is a little foamy like at surface gonna fill it again 50/50 and see, sorry so long winded but any help would be appreciated also no water in oil(milk shake) and not any oil in coolant that i can tell.

i'm flushing for fourth time right now till water is clean and i'm gonna fill it with 50/50 and see, is there another way to check if head gasket other than milky oil, or oil in coolant cause there is no milk or oil in coolant that i can tell

Seems to me like a headgasket as well based on the milky foam you described. Can't be sure to guess that though so here is what I would do.
1) Get a coolant system pressure checker. A little hand pump that hooks into your radiator and pump it up. Runs in my mind you apply roughly 15 PSI to the cooling system but the tool will likely have its own instructions.....
2) Wait for the system to "leak down". Every tool will have a different spec on how much leakdown is allowed.
3) You make sure everything under the hood is really dry and then wait to see if there are coolant leaks. If there are none, it is likely leaking internally into your engine (likely very slowly). Most likely this means head gasket. Have seen it also be a result of porosity in the head or block castings but never seen this on a Toyota (Saturns were proned to it due to the styrofoam moulds used for their engine blocks)

Fill it with a 60/40 mix (anti-freeze/water, respectively) Anti-freeze not only lowers the temp at which water freezes, but also increases the point that it boils. The foam could be from it starting to boil.

2 weeks ago i checked for flow in the radiator it seemed fine but how can i check condition of water pump, are does yota have weep hole or any other type of indicator when it starts to crap out?

i went and rented a rad pressure tool from A.Z. but there are no instructions inside what pressure do i pump to and for how long, are there any tolerance pressures as far as like 1 ponde an hour or something like that, and it still be in safe range? and also do i need to pull my tstat or will the little bypass valve be ok to let pressure through

ok an update on pressure test, i tested cap its good, put 13-14 lbs in radiator, and saw fluid coming from somewhere under power steering pump any ideas about where it could be coming from, i will investigate later but my little boy is napping and i stay inside while he napping

lets hope for hose or pump only not head gasket, Holy crap i need someone to help me with this the spot below my steering pump is such an awkward spot, can some one come pick me up by my feet and lower me into the engine compartment so i can see where the coolant is leaking from

there was a leak where the hose connects to water pump snout now with that tightened have kept 14lbs for 15 minutes with little or no movement of needle non that i can see, lets hope that fixes problem, i guess coolant was blowing off before it could be noticed

all leaking issues resolved but my system is pressuring up and blowing pop off valve to resevior like the tstat is not opening. ive changed tstat twice in 2 weeks so i know its not that. if my water pump is not pumping well, and tstat does open would this not circulating water cause it to boil over? it is cool enough in louisiana right now that it not overheating but thats the only thing i can think of little help please
