Frame Options
I needs some pointers. My frame is rusted worse then what I thought it was, anyways I have been throwing a bunch of ideas around to fix the problem. The truck has been in Ontario since 84 and after 26 years of being drove in salt its starting to show. Just behind the front rear leaf springs the frame is rusted out, drivers side is the worst. I would say about 1/2 the frame is gone for 5 inches. The rear is real bad on the passenger side beside the gas tank, their is about a 1" rot line that goes the length of the tank. The drivers side has about the same length but it just has a bunch of little spots gone on it.
Lets here some options, I'm thinking of 4 linking the front and rear, leaving only the frame around the cab in tact. Its a lot of work, probably wont be street legal any more and is the most expensive.
Second would be to just patch the front rust holes then making a new square tube rear half of the frame and maybe custom flat bed. Cheaper and easier to do. But how strong would it be?
Third, just cut out the little spots of rot then plate it with 1/4 plate? I'm just worried about the strength of doing it this way, frame is already patched in places to.
So guys whats your option?
