Question Epoxy Primer

I'm having the bed on my '81 sandblasted. Can anyone reccommend a good epoxy primer to spray over it after the blast?

Thanks!

I use OMNI , which is a division of PPG , it is not waterborn though , so i'm not sure you can get it

I would do exactly that, if I wasn't trying to restore it. It will have a bedliner sprayed in it though when its all done.

Thanks Corey, I will tell the guy doing the sandblasting and spraying the primer to look into it.

I like that picture and it made me think of something looking at it. What are the back of the cabs made out of? I know it's not metal (at least it doesn't sound like metal when you tap on it), is it fiberglass or plastic or what?

Subscribed. I'm doing homework for my own paint project, and been reading consistently that epoxy primers are either the best or tied for best with 2-part urethanes.

it is metal .. it just has a sound deadner on it and "muffles" your knocking on it ..
you might look into another process now avaliable , expecially if it's for a "restore" project . Not sure what your budget is , but you might want to talk to your sandblaster about powder coat primer . It's a new process and supose to be better . I dont think you Americans are aloud to spray the epoxy any more dure to VOC laws ? not positive , but you might want to check that out

My truck bed was done with Sikkens epoxy primer and a material called "Chip Guard" back in 1990. It still looks new, has never cracked or chipped and it matches the color of my truck. My truck was painted with Sikkens Teflon based paint (only available in Germany at the time) and most people think it is a 3 step paint but it is not. Again the truck was painted in 1990 and the finish still looks new.

Good stuff guys, thanks for all the info! I'll be talking to both the sandblaster and painter to make sure all my hard work lasts.
