Engine trouble help asked for.

my engine is well miss fireing and backfireing through the carb , this is after I pressure washed it. my friend things its electrical but could it also be something clogged in the primary jet? its really running like dog so yah any ideas Ive checked the distributor, and im going to take the top off the carb tommmorw and check my plugs but there is no oil in the radiator, so It dosnt look like the head is cracked. again any suggests would be awsome thanks again.

Could have a bit of water in the carb or settled into the socket that the plugs themselves go in. It could have also gotten into the rotor cap =) Best of luck to you.

Power washing is fine, I do it all the time, however I normally put something over the top of the carb and the distriutor and coil itself when I do it just to prevent such a thing from happening.

You havent messed with the timeing or anything have you? new spark plug wires? Plugs? Just asking to see if you have replaced anything. I have crossed plug wires before. But if you have water in your engine, not just in your carb or cap then run the truck for a period of time and see if it doesnt help. You may want to open it up a little too and let some new gas come into the carb.

yah I think I will but I bought a redline snorkel kit for the carb so figured I was safe, cause ive had a wet airfilter before and it would stumble at low speeds but smooth out, Im gonna take out all the plugs and replace them. I havent messed with the times I did kinda mess with the mixture on the carb to lean it out to see if that would keep it running but it didnt work. and I took all spark plug wires off and squirted some wd 40 in them to clean out what ever water there was.

Replaced the cap with the wires and plugs? Ive seen carbon tracking in a cracked cap cause misfiring/crossfiring..

vacuum leak around the carb? lean mixture causes backfiring out the carb.. check around the base of the carb, try and hear any air goin in..

You know the firing order is 1,3,4,2 right?.. so #1 is marked on the cap, and then clockwise the wires should go to 3,4,2 next..?

check to be sure you havent any uncap'd vacuum ports sitting around too.. could be the pressure washer knocked one or two off, allowing a vac leak and lean running..

well after 4 hours of fiddleing with it, I came to this conclusion. its the carb not getting a steady ammount of fuel , new electric fuel pump so its not that new fuel filters not that. its the pressure device on the carb with the spring that regulates something mechianc told me, that if a strong backfire happens aka when it first got wet it can knock it out and I would need to rebuild it, 30 bucks for the rebuild kit or try and swing for a new carb a true weber instead of a 34 34. anything I should know before I attempt this?
