Couple questions

I have a 1981 LWB Hilux 4x4. It came with a 20r in it and the 4sp tranny. The motor had a rod knocking so I got a 22r and swapped the motors out. My 22r motor does have the double row timing chain.

I still have my 20r intake, freshly rebuilt 20r carb and 20r head here just sitting around and I have been reading about this 22/20r hybrid thing. What would I need to do to check and comlpete this head swap? Which carb should I use? Would I need any adapter plates? With the bottom end of the 22r and the head of the 20r being stock, will i know or feel a difference if I complete this swap?

What is the best transmission I can run on my toy, manual preferred. My brothers 83 has the 5spd and I like the way his truck feels when shifting. At 50 mph with my 4spd im in 4th gear, but with his, he's only in 3rd, maybe 4th.

Any ideas, comments or suggestion? Everything is stock, It still has the stock 20r radiator and transmission and exhause. But the motor is a 22r with the 22r intake and carb.

Something about the head of the 20r head having more flow...I might have read it had dual cams, but if it doesnt my bad...wikipedias not netting me any info on that engine...lame..

You might notice the difference...
Some like to go with the motto, dont talk about, just do it.....

The problem I have with this is that I work 7 days a week and this is my only vehicle. So I need very little downtime or a schwinn, whichever is easier.

Schwinn For the Win !!

I believe a project like this would take a bit of research, Have you tried pirate4x4.com...might be some good info over there..but be careful...
If you got all the parts, knew exactly what you had to do, maybe it could be done in 3 days, thats if you send whatever head your going to use to a machine shop, and dont run into any snags along the way...
I've never done a project like that, but i like to expect the unexpected...ya know ?

I know exactly what you mean, that's why i was asking on the forums here and hoping to get some input from those that have done this or know where I could find more info about it.

I will have to check that pirate4x4 site, I have never been there.

Once again, thanks for the feedback and Happy holidays.
