Engine dieseling when shut off

Would there be an anti-diesel solenoid or valve on a 1980 20R pickup? My engine seems to diesel a bit if it's shut off too quickly. I'm thinking it may just have a "hot spot", but figured I'd ask to see if there's one on the engine.

not untill 81 ..

but I had the same problem on one of my old rigs -- /80 -- .. and if i remember correctly .. it was the AAP diaphram causing the problem .. i replaced it and actually increased fuel consumption , and cured the dieseling situation

That's interesting. Strange how replacing it actually increased your fuel consumption. Maybe there is a leak in mine causing a small amount of fuel to leak into the intake and ignite when it hits a hot spot. If I let the engine idle and cool off a bit before shutting it down immediately, it won't diesel at all. I'll have to take a look at the AAP

Makes sense. One thing I didn't consider is that the fuel in the carb might be boiling from the heat. The engine doesn't appear to be too hot, it actually appears to be running too cool going by the gauge, but that's another thing I'll have to check...

No prob You don't happen to have the part number for that AAP do you? I'm looking on Toyota Parts Zone and can't seem to find it, although they say the diaphragm comes in the carb kit. Might have to go that route

if the idle is set to high it can cause this problem also.

toyota wants ~ 30 bucks for the diaphram .. you can buy an aftermarket carb kit for much less , which includes the diaphram .

you can check it quite easly though .. the diaphram that is .. just remove it .. (3 phillips screws) and hold it to a light .. you should be able to see `pin holes` .. on mine , i couldnt because i was looking straight into the light ,but I replaced it anyways .. and it cured my diesling problem, but if you made some sort of funnel to block out the light .. you should see the pin holes (I didnt do this)
