l have an 83 4x4 with the 22R. l'm noticing a huge decrease in gas milage and it turns out that my stock carb hasn't been rebuilt after 240,000 miles. So instead of dealing with the stock one l just want to upgrade to a Weber and get rid of excess junk. The problem is that l drive my truck every day to school and work so l'll need to make the switch in one day. Any tips or things that l should know before l make the switch? Weber's site has a few different carbs for my truck available, so far l have this one in mind. l'd really appreciate any better suggestions.

Especially if you have a Factory Service Manual, it's a simple job, swapping out carbs. I've never done a weber...but putting a rebuilt Aisin carb on my truck was really a 15 minute deal. Getting it tuned on the other hand...that's another story. But I would guess that to get it on, and tuned well enough to get you to work is easily an hour job. But like I said...I didn't do a Weber, so hopefully somebody who has will speak up. Maybe they take a bit more time since it's not stock.

 

That's the carb that I would go with as well...or a dgav if you could find it. The choke operates off of the coolant temp. The only thing that I would change personally is the adapter. LC engineering makes a pro spiral adapter for the 32/36 and it doesn't leak like mine was doing (I tried putting a new gasket it in too). I would say that most anyone that works on their own vehicles could do a swap to a weber in about 2-6hrs depending on knowledge. After rebuilding and rejetting my weber (took about 3 hours since I had never done it before and triple checked everything) install takes about 30 minutes. With the linkages and adapters and such I would say I would be under 4 hours for a swap from stock to weber. Tuning afterwards might take 45min....depending on elevation and such. Oh and I drive this thing every day too. Runs like a charm except on really cold mornings and the manual choke gets kinda old. You can ebay the Coolant adapter and install that into your lines and it would make life a little easier. I haven't done that yet and don't plan on it due to an engine swap here in the next 8 months.
