Well I got it all back in and it fired up. I must need to do some adjustments because it would not idle with my foot off the gas??? Anyone know what I should try to adjust?

Well I have spent some time the past weekend messing with the carb and I have gave up on it. I probaly have a leak somewhere, but screw it. I am going to a weber 32/36 kit. Planning on unhooking all the emmisions crap while I'm in there and running an electric fuel pump. I was going to go with propane, but it would be a pain having to plan out when and where I want to fill up. I can't wait for summer to come around so I can get some more done on it. i.e. paint, bedliner. I just thought I would give you all an update.

 

I have heard that the Webers are hard to tune. If you tune in dry weather then they run like crap in humid weather and vica versa. Is there power to your idle solenoid? I had that problem once. The engine runs only with foot on throttle, but at idle it dies. Drove 100 miles like that. I have also heard that you can put a used Toyota EFI on instead of a carb---bolts right up--for about the same cost as the weber or propane. Best of both worlds, plus better off angle running.

 

My friends localy run the 38 webers and have had no problem once they got them tuned. If I was going to spend the money on a EFI, I would just go to LPG. I am going to give this a try and if I don't like it I am going to go with LPG and sell the weber. I assume you are talking about the fuel cut off solenoid? I checked mine and it is good. I am sure there is a vacuum leak somewhere. I am so sick of all the vaccum lines running everywhere.

 

Does it lope and then die, or is it instant, like you shut the key off? If the latter, check the engine fuse. I had the dang carb ready to remove before I checked that.

If its the former, and its cold, I'd bet its the fast idle linkage. My 22r is a tad cold blooded, so is my friends. My FI (fast idle, not fuel injection) doesn't work, so when its cold it lopes and dies, unless I keep my foot in it or head down the road immediately. I'd say take it for a spin to get the engine up to temp and see what it does.

It now dies instantly. It used to run but would not idle. I will check the fuse, is it just in the main fuse box? Thanks for the tip. This has been driving me nuts and I am to the point where I just want it running.

My fuse was still good. I got my weber and I hope the weather is nice this weekend so I can get it installed.

 

Looking forward to seeing how the carb install goes. I keep debating about just sucking it up with what I got and wait till I find the "good deal" to convert to EFI or drop the $300 for a new carb. Always going to be something with these trucks...

OT: are you planning on making it out to the Oregon YT get together this summer? It would be cool to check out another 1st Gen...

it is june 28th, either going to be at Brown's Camp OHV park (just off HWY 6 in Oregon) or at Champoeg Park just off I-5 before you get to Salem...I think Rowdy235 is still narrowing it down for a Trail run or a meet and greet...

How do you like the fenders? How do they fit?

 

They fit really good. I am really happy with them. The only problem that I have run into is I did not paint them after I got them and now it is 3 years later and it is starting to fade and oxi. I am planning on painting the whole truck this summer so it should be good then. I think I paid $35 or so a piece for them at a junk yard. They were new replacements.

 

So the weber 32/36 carb kit got delivered Monday and look like it is all there. I am planning on installing it Saturday. Do any of you have tips to make it go smoother? Well I will post pics and a report once I get it installed.

 

Well I got the weber installed this past weekend and it fired on the first crank and idled with no problems and then I tried to start it later and now I am not getting gas. I am going to install an elect. pump this weekend if the weather is nice.
