charge light come on for overcharging?

I just swapped over a gauge cluster that has a tach on it and the charge light was burnt out on the original one, so now with the new one the charge light stays on. I checked the volts and at idle its putting out a little over 17 at the bat. Will the charge lamp light up for overcharging? Tried taping the relay but I did nothing. Looks like a new voltage regulator is needed. Also the tach does not work but I am still troubleshooting that one.

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the confirmation.

Still no luck on the tach. I dont know if it worked to begin with, but I used up all my ideas so it looks like I need to find another one. If anyone has one they way to sell, I will take it. For a 1980, with the tach in the center.

Also is there a certain brand voltage regulator I should go with, one that you have had better luck with it lasting?
