carb problems
I was wheeling out on the trails yesterday when my engine all of the sudden started running bad and would not idle. The engine still runs if I keep gas on it, but when brought down to an idle it stalls. If i start the truck without touching the gas it will idle (poorly) but if i touch the gas at all it will rev up and then stall when it comes back down to 1100 rpm. On my carb it seems like the butterfly valve is real loose and floppy, but i cant find a screw that tightens it or anything. Someone told me something about the dashpot, could that be the problem? Are there any other air screws or anything that I should try adjusting?

Need a little bit more info.....Engine, type of Carb, What kind of choke. Only reason I'm asking is because I had the same problem when the ground to my fuel cut solenoid got loose, and it wouldn't idle. It may not be the case for you though.

Its an electric choke, Im pretty sure its the aison carburetor. I have the carb off and im taking it to a guy whos good with carbs, hopefully he can find whats wrong with it. Meanwhile I'll go check my ground to the idle fuel cut solenoid haha

Instead of starting another thread, does anybody have any ideas for me? I have basically the same issue, and it's preventing me from being able to stop at traffic lights etc without keeping foot halfway on gas, and is killing my fuel mileage from having to keep it revved all the time. My set up is an 81 SR5 with 85 22R and 32/36 DGV Weber, manual choke, choke DOES open all the way up.

Well I rebuilt my carb with a rebuild kit from napa, (a certified toyota mechanic rebuilt it for me) and I put it in and it still runs buggy. Although much better than before, my motor still dies occasionally at traffic lights. Ive been told that its probably my EGR valve.
My advice for you is to check for a vacuum leak, and check your EGR valve. Make sure every hose and port is connected or plugged. Ive only worked on the aisin carbs and I dont know much at all about weber carbs, but a vacuum leak or your EGR are your best bets. You also might want to consider a rebuild kit like the one I got, it was definitely worth it. Good luck with it, its definitely a pain in the ass.

My EGR system is completely disconnected from the intake, all vacuum ports are blocked off, no longer seem to have any vacuum leaks around the adapter to manifold joint that it used to have and I was chasing for a while. Maybe I just need to rebuild it.
