Capacitor on back of alternator case?

I think I figured out my overcharging problem, the PO had the wrong alternator on the truck. They had one for a six pin voltage regulator (F-E-N) and it has the 5 pin. Anyways I ordered a 5 pin alternator (L-E-F) and I noticed some of the pics had a capacitor on the back of the case (as does the one I took off the truck) and some don't. If it comes without the capacitor do I need to swap it over to the new alt? Truck is a 1980.

Thanks
Mike

The item you describe is for radio noise suppression and I think it is a condenser not a capacitor. Yes, swap it to the new alternator if the new alternator does not have one.

Correct.

Same thing. "Condenser" is an older name for capacitor
