Booger

Picked up a new toy this past week. Booger is a 1980 with 20r and l43, spooled diffs and 5.29s, some custom sliders and a home made bumper with a nice warm 8274. Booger has tons wrong but he runs great and is hella fun. He desperately needs power steering. I have an entire IFS steering setup, like literally the entire system. I ordered the ifs box bracket from sky, I searched for a thread in adding a 22re power steering system on a 20r but didn’t see what I wanted. Anyone done this setup and have some tips or pointers? Thanks.

I dropped the ball on this thread hard, but I have been working tirelessly on this project. I did so much I wont remember it all but I will go over the basics in case anyone has questions about methods/parts. I installed 2wd newer model chevy 63s in back with sky shackles and ubolts/plates. triangulated rear shocks and I left the front shocks in the oem towers for now. new extended lines. new poly bushings. removed the home made welded on hitch and cleaned up the frame. I had the bed off for all this. I out the old rear springs up front with a few extra leaves from the old fronts to level it all off. sky boomerang shackles, factory front hangers. new oem front bolts/bushings. I had tom woods make a front shaft. was 420 bucks shipped to my door and took them 1 day to build. I did new body bushings, poly. I worked on the interior a bit for a floor liner, replaced the dash, fixed all lamps, I put a new weber 32/36 carb on and deleted all smog, full tune up for ignition stuff and fluids, flange seals on everything, replaced many engine gaskets, rebuilt the shift linkage on the l43, new headers and some exhaust, new wheels and tires, new marlin rear bumper. theres plenty of other stuff but that highlights a lot of the work. here is Booger as it sits now.

shocks on

first flex test

works on, needs more backspace on the rims

had some custom CNC cut door panels made. been selling a few. new bumper on

inside cleaned up good enough for a trail truck

new wheels with better backspace

I forgot my biggest jobs haha. I did end up adding power steering successfully and have high steer. I used an 88 4runner gear box, trail gear hysteer kit, power steering pump/tensioner/brackets off an 85 22r. all bolted up fine but I did not install the lower brace because I couldt find the bosses. seems to be working without it find.

That is a nice looking truck, I like the green.

What size tires are on it? Are they thinner than 10.5"? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me? I've always wanted to put some thinner tires on my 4runner.

your eyes are in fact deceiving you but not without good reason. these are actually Q tires. was a pain in the arse to find a full set of 4. Q78/16s, I put a tape on them and they come out to about 36.5x10.5x16. they look thinner because your have probably never seen anything bigger than a 34 or 35 as narrow as these. and thanks! as for the color, no clue on it. was painted year ago by one of its previous owners. its yellow underneath.

there was another brace that was supposed to mount down below near the alternator area but I didn’t install it. Booger is actually down for a timing chain job right now I may install it during reassembly. Here’s some recent booger pictures.
