AC in 1st generation.....

I have my 80 and it did not come with factory ac. I do have the under dash air handler from an 85 and was wondering how big of a pin its going to be to get it to work. Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

+ the condensor.

it is more than just adding the fan housing under the dash. The AC unit has all the stuff mentioned by pepsibluefloat just like a fridge...

the hose they are talking about would run from the pump to two hose inlets at the firewall here (pictures are from my '81 FSM, scanner is kapute so these are with my crappy digital):

under dash lay out ( your '85 stuff might be similar, dunno)

the condensor is like a small radiator:

I just recently finished adding a factory air set-up to my '79 which originally did not have air. Based on pictures I have seen, it looks like the 84 and up evaporator box is significantly different than the 79 - 83 evaporator box so it would probably be difficult to get it to fit and work right. There is not a lot of room under the dash to work with. My advice would be to get all of the under dash AC parts (evaporator, ducts and wiring harness) from another 79 - 83. If you have any specific questions about adding air, I would be happy to answer them. This was not a difficult project, but it was time consuming.

Im parting out a 81 soon, it has ac, not sure if it works.
I can hook you up with about 90% of the parts needed to get you started.
