How many have pulled there piston for new rings or a rebuild and find that the oil rings are completely gummed up? That alone will cause more blow by and more oil loss. Reason I'm asking is some makes never have issues some do. But I keep reading about the r22 engine with over 500,000 miles still going. Can't say that for most American V 8 or V 6.
That's one reason I only use a High Detergent oil. It helps keep things clean.

 

The Toyota engine I think you are referring to is the 22R, not r22.

 

That's the one. Sorry for the mix up. I'm still considering pulling the head , then piston and check the rings. I'm dropping the pan tomorrow so at that time I'll be able to take a look at the bores. Hopefully no scoring shows on the cylinder walls. And kitten I can measure the bore to check if it has ever been bored out.
