Pulled the motor today!
woke up planning on doin some work to it, did not expect to have the motor out but we did it
the timing chain jumped at least a tooth, maby 2 or 3 which is why it died on me the other day and wouldnt start, so we were gonna get a new timing chain and fix that along with adjusting the valves and maby tuning the carb.
we found that the cylinders are glazed ( rediculously smooth) and that gas has been pouring into the oil which made the oil watery and cleaned everything nicely but also obviously ruined the bearings. long story short we are re building the motor over christmas break.
the guys be fore me also blew the timing chain before and instead of fixing it, used jb weld which is just stupid. on the plus side i got $300 out of those old 36" tires today
gonna do a clutch while im at it, hone the cylinders, rings, bearings, all that junk
plug all those hoses off the carb. ect. ect.

heads off.

head.

motor isnt there

there it is

mess

wait for it

jb weld. pretty dang cheap

on an unrelated note, i think a visor would look really cool on that truck but i havent been able to find one for a first gen toyota truck, i havent even ever seen a first gen pick up with one on. Do they not exist? would one for a later year work and look decent? or would a visor just look dumb and i should bag the idea?

i got it back in and had a bad oil leek from the front because i forgot the frond bolt that goes through the head into the timing cover. i tore the whole thing back apart and got a new head gasket and put it all back together. no it turns over fine, im pretty sure i just have to adjust the timing, id probly have got it don today if i wasnt so tired.

i think it would make a first gen look tougher.
all i have left to do is set the timing. thats it. and its been that way since sunday. im getting frustrated, especially since i got a dead battery know and i can do anything with it. im leavin it on the trickle charger over night and for the better half of tomorrow while im at school. i really cant afford a new battery right now.

Dont do the visor! put smoked cab lights on it. that would look good.

I got a 91 one time dark blue with orange lense cab lights and it was plush

i figured out what my problem is. long story short theres a crack near the top of the timing cover and its just pouring oil out of it when its runnin. so i get to go pick up a new timing cover and i think im going to have to get the single roller timing kit because the shortend oil pump drive gear i think is to short to the crank pully is grinding on stuff. basicly i need a new timing cover, gaskets, and a timing kit. then ill be good to go. wouldnt of figured that one out by myself. the neibor came over and found it. he said its a fairly common problem when that top bolt get over torqued. he has a new pick up with a chev 4.3 in it.

this pisses me off. its leaking oil from between the block and the timing cover. I've thrown to much money in the garbage for this truck and i'm tired of doing everything over again. the trucks gonna have to sit for a while cause i'm flat broke. i think i'm gonna have to borrow some money from my mom to get my montero running so i can sell that, pay her back, and have the money for my truck.

A few things i still need:
running, non-leaking motor
gears (yes there still stock)
a locker
u bolts (so i can take out the rear blocks and hook up the e-brake
a battery and a battery tray and another battery
round head lights and buckets
decent mirrors
seat belts (drivers is jerry rigged (sp?) and there is no passenger)
roll bar/spare tire mount
tool box
then im about set

cliff notes for a long post:
motors screwed up and i dont have the money to fix it.
