another question. i have a 4 speed manual in it right now but i also have a 5 speed in the barn outside. a buddy of mine was talkin about how another buddy of mine with an almost identical setup couldnt touch 5th gear. he said i should get the tranny re-geard so the gears are lower so that it would be like a 4 speed with a granny low, untill i heard this i was just gonna run dual t-cases. does anyone have more info on the topic for me? gearing is kinda confusing for me.

These are shims that twist the pinion upward to relieve some of the stress on the ujoints for a lifted truck (I believe they are ~ 3 degree shims) They should be placed such that the thicker side is facing towards the front of the truck. You will understand when you place them between the springs and the spring pads.

As for the u-bolt backets, I believe mine are similar in design. I would bet the one on the left is for the passenger side since it has to work next to the "pumpkin" in conjunction with the spring pad type piece welded to the bottom of the housing

I don't know about regearing the tranny, but you could definitely regear the axles. The axle/differential is what people put different gears in to help with bigger tires. So yeah, your gears are for 28" tires. You put those big tires on and your gear ratio to tire size is thrown way off so you lose all your power. Going to different gears (like 4.88 or so) will return you to close to stock set up, so you'll actually be able to move those tires. Not sure what the effect of the dual t-cases will be on this, but I don't know that it will effect your 2wd performance at all.

This site has several calculators to use for regearing. I was using 5.29:1 gears with 38" Swampers and the stock V6 with excellent results. The speedometer was even close to being accurate.

The trick is if you get it wrong, you have to live with it or buy another set of gears. If you are not sure about the gear ratio you want, or you get a ton of conflicting suggestions, try the calculator and buy just the set for the rear axle. if you think it's too much or too little, change it out accordingly. Then buy the matching gears for the front.
