so my 81 was running then stopped, jiggled the wires and it started again but now nothing. i put a new battery and alternator in. first time i turned the key all the lights came on i turned to start it and there was a loud click lights went off and i didn't start. now no lights come on what should i do. i checked all the fuses they're all good and i can't see a visible short.

check your fuse links ... right off of the positive battery posts w/green connectors .. give them a "tug" if they break there toast . These are the main engine "fueses" for this year , but in wire form

ya its weird though it won't start under its own power but if you jump it, it starts easily
