79 toyota motorhome
i have an 79 Toyota motor home that i got suckered into with plans of parting it out, only to find zero local interest in the drive train that is in very good condition, even tires are only a year old as well as an new clutch carb and breaks all last year the scrap yard wont take it unless i rip the back half off the junk yard will charge me to take it. so i thought of making a flat bed out of it but its all more work than i want to do. so my current thoughts are of fixing it up, im going to give it a good look over in the light tomorrow with eyes of fixing it up and see what all it would take, and after fixing it then selling my very nice slide in 9 1/2 foot pickup camper i put in my ford power stroke and just keeping the toyota camper. but the Toyota has to be able to tow an 2300lbs boat/trailer combination. now im being realistic, has to be able to do 60 pulling the boat, you think it could handle that load? driving the motor home, home when i got it i was able to do 70-75 but that was towing nothing
also my weight estimate is for an 16 foot fiberglass boat with 65 hp evenrude and trailer and the estimate is high enough that it should cover all coolers and fishing gear and other things i would most likly be carrying in the boat

i would try and fix it up and use it for camping. do you have access to woodworking tools? you could build some interior stuff for it and replace that rotted wood up there. you may be able to tow 2300 at 60 it depends on the gearing. i have an 80 2wd with a 22r that i haul steel in and it does great i can cruise 65-70 no prob

i donno how much it weighed but the truck was sitting firmly on the bumpstops. the bed is full of 3/8" steel. like i said i could cruise 70 on flat effortlessly

its got an 20R in it. i have no idea what size it it is, (do they include the cab when measuring an motor home?) i got it for free so it was beyond cheep.
the bumper sticker along with the pictures of the inside kinda pant a picture of the people who i got it from. if the receipts weren't in the glove box i probably would have never believed him on the work that has been done to it.
I have plenty of wood working tools, i just recently finished an restoration on my fiberglass boat that consisted of removing and replacing and re fiber glassing of every wood component in the boat floors stringers transom the works. so i dread digging into another wood rot project but this cant be as hard as there is no fiberglass involved.
i wonder how meany of these first gen motorhomes are still around?

other than it having expired tags im thinking about hooking my boat up to it and towing it before i do anything, i cant be driving 35 on the interstate trying to get up an tiny hill. when i drove it home on flat land and no trailer i could keep it 70-75 on the interstate without having it floored just took a while to get there. the boat trailer should not add any wind resistance so hopefully it can maintain 60 on the freeway with the boat behind it.

you can't ask a 20r to try to tow an extra 2300 lbs at 65.
looking at the roof damage, it similar to what I had with an old trailer:
so my kids and I had fun with a fire fighter ax-

wasn't worth it to try to repair the roof, too much work and too much money to repair the damage.
keep your other truck.
edit:
are you sure it is a '79? front fender kind of looks like a '78 or earlier to me...hard to tell from the angle though

besides it was fun destroying that old POS trailer.
other things to consider on your motor home:
-does the plumbing work?
-does the stove/furnace work?
-does the 110v work?
-propane tanks current?
JMO but I would say it could be quite the pit... good luck with it
