79 PU starting problems when cooling down

So I've been chasing this odd ball no start problem for a while now, has me and my friends confused as hell. So, when the truck is cold, fires right up, never stalls while running( through all running temps). Then I can shut it down(while hot) and it will fire right back up within 3-7 minutes. If I don't get back to it in time it wont start, not one cylinder will will get fire(seems like I pulled off the coil wire). Wait about 20-30 minutes and it fires right back up.

I have fuel( blows a cloud with it fires up from me cranking it) and I have spark. It seems to bounce back a little faster when I pull the distributor cap.

So I did a little reading and found it might be the magnetic pickup ("points") might be the problem, so swapped it out and nothing changed. Swapped out the distributor for a 22r unit and it went away for 5 days, but now its back. No shaft play, airgap set at .12in.

Anyone ever have this problem?

Check your engine grounds and pull the plugs to check for fouling. From there I would go to fuel delivery and make sure it isn't getting flooded.

Ive cleaned grounds at starter, alternator, and ignition. Carb has been rebuild and float is dead in the middle of the glass. It seems like it is ignition to me, when I pull a plug after this happens its a little black, but not to the point its anywhere close to being gummed up or soaked in fuel.

Just curious to know if anyone out there has heard or had happen to them before.

I have seen it happening from flooding before too, and I think a member here had that problem but with white smoke and it turned out to be a head gasket failure. Is the smoke black or gray when it finally fires? After letting it cool down to the point it is hard to restart, you should try removing the plugs and crank it over (with the coil wire removed) to see if there is excess fuel in the cylinders.
