Hello all...

I have a 71 Hilux 2wd, w/ a 4spd.

I'd like to drive it daily but the 4 spd causes the engine to wind out badly at freeway speeds. 70mph has the engine turning 4k aprox...
The high RPMs in turn kill gas mileage.

So i need to identify what model trans i have, so that I can research an adapter plate for a 5 spd.

Also, I can't seem to find out what the gear ratio is on the axle.
I may just swap out for a

Thanks man, I had dug through that once before searching google etc.
I can't find where each trans relates to a vehicle or engine.
Its just a list of transmissions and years...

Does anyone on here have a Toy as old as mine?

I don't think there are a whole lot of guys on YotaTech running pre-1980 trucks. Have you tried calling a dealership to see if they can dig up some info for you?

 

I would make a wild guess saying you have a G40, only because i looked through every other 4speed on there.
