Can a 2WD bed be used on the 4WD trucks? Or is the wheel well larger on the 4WD..

They swap and the wells are the same size. Just the 4x4 beds have a wider flare.

 

actually , the skirts are longer on a 2WD bed (smaller opening) only by ~ 1" though , but they would have to be cut if your using the flare

 

I put a 2wd bed on my 85 4wd xtracab. I like the rail at the top turned outward and the double tailgate latch. I believe these were only available on the 2wd which is why I swapped the 2wd bed onto my rig. As I recall the only hiccup was the filler neck connection was slightly different between the two beds, so I had to use the 2wd filler neck as well.

 

What year of Truck are you wanting to swap the beds on?

I know this is posted in the "Pre-1984 Trucks" section, but the differences depend on the generation of Truck or Hilux.
