22r has very loud tick

Ok so my head gasket blew and I have decided to do a little pick me up to the engine
new 268 englbldr cam
had the englbldr shop convert my head to a Street RV
Doug Thorly Header
38/38 Weber Carb
2-1/4 exaust with magnaflow muffler

It is actually very sporty now but I have this extremly loud ticking from the engine. I have did the valves I even cranked them down a little tighter and that didn't fix anything. I am at a loss of what to do.

Was this anew cam and if so did you break it in right. If not a cam lobe may have went soft .Did you install new rockers? Better check cam and make sure all is well.

Well cam is fine I just needed to really inspect it. I had an exaust leak. Top rear most stud on #4 and the #1 top most stud stripped out of their holes. I guess it is helicoil time .... I just hope I can get to it ..my exhaust is welded on so I think I am gonna have a hard time keeping everything clear.

you can cut the exhaust and use clamps and a union to put it back together long enough to get it welded back together....

Well It looked like everything was good for little bit. I heard another exhaust leak. I went to tighten everything down with a torque wrench and my #1 stud striped out after I put the helicoil in. I guess I could re-drill and tap it out with a bigger stud that has a step down that will fit through my header flange. or I had a friend suggest red locktite?

loctite breaks down with heat, so not much luck there. i'm pretty sure a 7/16" stud will work for a stripped stock one, or you can helicoil it or use a timesert.

i've found the best way to keep the nuts from backing off is to use an all-metal lock nut(like toyota factory ones on later trucks, or the stover generic type, but tough to find in metric), or use a hardened lock washer and regular nut.
