Right, the timing cover houses the oil pump and water pump. Did you replace it?

i have a new timing cover and oil pump and the play on the face of the gears is the only thing left that i can find that could cause the problems im having with it. it just doesnt seem right to me that both being brand new parts that it would be like that, i would think that the oil pump gears would have a pretty tight clearance against the timing cover.

Pull the cap off the top of the oil pump, pack it with vaseline, start your truck..
Theoretically this should prime your oil pump, and make your oil pressure go up.
Worth a shot.

Have you had any luck yet? My 20r did this untill a drag racing friend asked me what kind of filter i was running. I was using fram filter (thought they were the best). He told me i should try Wix filter. So i took his advice and found out it gets oil pressure faster. I guess he says its the way thier made. I dont know if this could be a problem but it may. Hope this helps!

today i took the old pump and sanded down the housing to bring down the excess clearance on the gears. it did seem to help alot now that it fits tight enough that the gears wont move back and forth. hopefully i can run around town and find a better brand of filter and see if that makes it any better.
