22r bucking/missfire help

i have a 1980 4wd pickup with a 22r swapped in. recently it started to act like it was at a loss for fuel. So i changed the mechanical pump, and filters, and got the ones with the clear viewing window. it's getting plenty of fuel. it will rev fine to 5k in first then in second starts to seem like its bogging out around 4k then in 3rd it doesn't like to go past 3k. not sure if it's just a coincidence with the rpms, but it will buck and miss fire like a mule, then i push the clutch in and let it out and it will coast fine until i go to step on the gas again. is it something in my carb? ignition going out? im running an msd coil with what looks to be the stock toyota ignitor. Help please! could it possibly be a skipped timing gear? i was driving it to work, revving it high down a dirt road, and all of a sudden it started to get these symptoms. it will idle fine, and it seems to not do its problem when there is no load on the engine.

You can check the timing and make sure it advances when reved. If you use an inductive timing light, move it to all 4 spark plug wires in sequence and you can see if it's firing the spark plugs.

See if you can check the compression, too. Mine would idle, sort of, even with the head gasket blown between cylinders 3 and 4, but it wouldn't go anywhere well. Zero compression in both those cylinders told me what was wrong.
