1st Gen brake question
OK I am in the process of doing rear discs and fr disc upgrade on my 83 Toy 4x4. I am also planning on upgrading the brake master and booster also. Has anyone done this recently? Reason I am asking is NAPA, Advance Auto, and Vato Zone all say that the brake booster for the turbo trucks is no longer available. Wondering if its just these places locally ro something else. If anyone has one of these boosters available please shoot me a PM if you want to sell it.

because of the rareness of the turbo booster .. I went with the larger more readily avaliable DD booster in my trekker ..
I simply replaced the steering shaft u-joint with the 84-88 cv type joint ..
you can see the build thread in my sig.
I used the 89-95 4runner booster as well as the 1" master , and the truck stops on a dime .. no kidding !!
also , because the booster is larger , you will need to replace the clutch master as well .. I used the 99 4 Runner , and works perfect ..

I was looking for the 86-87 turbo truck DD booster. It appears the Cardone doesnt reman them anymore. I might have a line on a reman one but if it falls through I will have to use the 4 runner DD booster that I already have.
The 84-88 cv joint, does it come from a 2wd or 4wd or does it matter?

I just received my rear disc conversion brackets from Low Range Offroad yesterday afternoon. They use the GM rotors and Monte Carlo calipers. From what I understand, simply using that setup and converting to a 1" bore master cylinder with a residual valve and manual LPV will give me more than enough stopping power. Only down side is that I either need a line lock or a t-case brake for an e-brake.
What rear discs and calipers are you going to be running and what kind of driving are you going to be doing? You may be over thinking it a little by trying to find rare part since these trucks don't take whole lot to stop them.

The stock brake booster with a 1" bore master cylinder, residual valve and rear adjustable brake proportioning valve will stop your truck just fine. I run a Downy Off-Road (out of business) rear disk brake system with rear calibers that have a built in hand brake. Lokar supplied the cables and adapters to Downy to activate the rear caliber handbrakes.
