1983 pickup floorboard

I might be buying a 1983 Toyota Pickup (long bed) 4x4. It's got minor rust in the bed and the floor pans... The bed can be bondo'd or something, but what I'm really worried about is the giant holes in the floor pan... Is there a place where I can buy some new or used ones or should I just weld a sheet of aluminum or something over it?

i have some holes in mine, i couldnt find any new floor pans, so when i get the space im gonna just cut out the rusted ลลลล and weld in new metal. its covered by carpet anyways, i also riveted cookie sheet to one hole before i got my welder, but now it will be welded. you could go to a junkyard and cut out a good floorpan. this is an other option i am considering.

The ones on this truck aren't covered by carpet or anything, just straight through, and you can see the tires under it :-) I don't know of a junk yard in San Antonio with toyota's but I might just end up welding metal over it then.

I have an 83 with the same problem. Currently in the process of welding in patches right now. I to couldnt find any replacements out there. I had thought of finding a junker also but couldnt find any in better shape then mine. New metal seems the way to go.

i had to on my 84,

heres what it was like before.

that was 18 gauge cold rolled steel, (may be 16 gauge i forget) it was easy to work into place. i used a regular 110v flux wire welder , it was hard not to burn through the thin metal. i have a gas mig welder now that makes it easier. i like the idea of finding one in a junker, i tried that but all the ones here werent in good shape either. as for the part that isnt covered, you could cover it. i used truck bed coating to cover the bare metal also. i also made sure i could shoot some oil in the hollow rocker panels to help prevent rust in the future.

Nice work Titicaca. Did you have as much fun as we did striping away that crappy insulation stuff? Our holes go through the middle body mounts so we have to build that whole piece on the bottom of the cab as well.

i used one of those mean ass 4 inch wire wheels with some stiff ass brushes on my angle grinder. that stuff its a real beotch. my drivers side was way worse i just cust the whole damn thing out and pretty much started from scratch. i used angle iron on the rocker panels and welded them underneath also. i was thinking i could just leave the holes in case i ever had the brakes go out but then i realized that i could drop my beer through that hole so i better weld it up... although it would be a good way to ditch your stash if the po po was on your ass... lol

I am gonna go find some 16gauge metal to do mine, ill redo most of it, then ill duraback or rubberize it again. if i can get a wireless sawzall or jig saw im gonna do the junker idea...

Yours is worse than mine, yesterday i welded the body mount back to the body it was cracked but i grinded the rust off and got it done. it was hard it kept burning threw, but it feels good now. and no squeaks

Im ditching my bed because of rust issues and going flat but bondo under a liner would be sufficent i guess. I plan on rhinolining my interior as well. Hey titi I had the same thought about the po po and ill try that print deal in a bit, for now back to work.
