I am fixing up a 1982 4x4 pickup that I picked up recently. I had a couple of these back in the 80’s & been driving Toyota trucks ever since. I am trying to replace a leaking rear wheel cylinder & can’t figure out how to get it out past the hub? Can someone help here? I am hoping you don’t have to take the axle loose.
The axle shaft shouldn't be in the way at all. Remove the brake line, remove the two bolts , 10mm I believe. give it a tap from the backside to break it loose from the backing plate and it should come right out. If the bleeder is in the way remove that too.
If that is gear oil all over the backing plate you probably need to pull the shaft and change the bearing/seal.
Thanks for the tip! I removed the bleeder and it popped right out. Changing out the brakes shoes was a real pain. I am hoping all the fluid you saw as the brake fluid and WD-40!
