1982 22r carb issues..

Bought my first 4x4 project a month ago. 1982 4x4 4speed, it would idle for about 2 minutes before it would die so i thought it had really bad fuel gummed so i decided to rebuild the carb during the time i was replacing the timing chain. now it wont harldy start at all ( i have to pour fuel in the carb )nand i have to floor it to start. it has new fuel pump rebuilt carb and new fuel filter. when it does run i have to keep it revving pretty high prob above 3 grand and if you let off the gas it just dies and wont restart. the ticrod from the chain is gone now but it wont start or idle. no vac leaks dist is in properly. Any ideas guys?? thanks !

Some oil leaks can look like the pan gasket, but sometimes are the oil seal on the timing cover behind the crank pulley.
Had that happen a few times, oil would blow out from that dead seal, and get forced along the track of the oil pan.
I thought I kept botching my expensive FIPG both times.
