Time to replace the clutch, but everyone I look up is either for a 1979-1980 or 1981 and up. If I am running a rebuilt 83 22r motor, and a 1980 4spd tranny, do you buy the clutch that matches the motor or the tranny?

 

i would like to know the same..i have a 79 20R and a 82 5spd i wanna swap in..do u buy the clutch that matches the motor or tranny?

 

buy the clutch for the year transmission you are using. the flywheels for the 20R and 22R are interchangeable and have the same bolt patterns. however the 4 speed used from '80 down is an odd duck and won't work with a later clutch.

 

Thanks for the reply, the guys at Autozone kept on telling me that it shouldn't matter....but their not the ones who are going to have to take the tranny off twice to resolve any issues. Looks like I can go get the clutch now.
