1980 20r Engine Temp Gauge problem

1980 20r Engine Temp Gauge problem
Hello, I have a 1980 longbed 4x4 with the 20R engine. My question is where might the sensor for the Engine Temperature Gauge be?
The Temp Gauge in the truck shows the needle in the bottom area of the gauge and has never moved since I have owned the truck.
The image below is my first guess. Any help is greatly appreciated

Ground the wire to the sending unit and see if the gauge moves. If the gauge moves when the wire is grounded, that means the gauge is good and the sending unit is bad. If the gauge doesn't move when the wire is grounded, then the gauge is bad.
