1979 Toyota charging problems, gettin pissed
#21
I have a 79 20r pickup 4x4 with 5 blade connector to the volt reg. and a L-E-F black 55 amp alt. The 3 blade plug to the back of the alternator has been cut off by the previous owner so I am unsure of which wire goes to which location. there is a black/white trace, a black and a thinner black wire. Does anybody have this type of alternator sub harness that can take a picture or know of any for sale? (used or new/aftermarket)
I am also gettin pissed... any help is greatly apreciated

Hard to tell where your at, you're going back and forth? I think the alt & brake lamp relay if defective they both go out at same time if you have one on the '79? 3 years ago had trouble figuring if my battery or alt. was bad, even after testing they showed good and had a shop test it, said the alt was good. Still wouldn't charge right so changed both with new and problem solved except for the brake and alt lamps were dead. Found the relay was bad, on my '82 its to right of glove box. I unplugged it and found they were very pricey so rebuilt it within the same plastic case. If you don't have get a service manual, will help tons.
I don't agree with changing alt. with battery each time. An alt can last 20-40 years but battery nothing near that. I bought an extra to keep under the seat just incase just like a fuel pump and other items for long trips.
