1978 toyota20r 4 cyl

not sure where to put this. have a 1978 toyotatruck 20 r 4 cyl. the clutch seems to have gone still have plenty of pedal as allways the gear shifter acts like its not connected just moves all around but doesnt seem to go into any gear. any suggestions? thank you

You most likely have an L series transmission, which has a bunch of linkage on the side of it. Check that all of the linkage is still connected. It sounds like something may have broken loose.

is it a 4 or 5 speed? the above response is correct in that you most likely have an L series, which is top shift. When i purchased mine the shifter slopped, and flopped all over, but it shifted.

the excessive play and give could be due to the shift lever ball seat. marlin sells an upgraded, machined, urethane version. im not tranny expert, but if its not shifting at all, my guess would be a broken shift fork..

L4x= side shift. L5x= top shift.
