Your top three favorite handtools

Reading through this section suggests Craftsman is the favorite, or at least the most purchased. So pick your top three favorites...

Apologies if I've left off your favorite.

Mostly Craftsman here.

BUT, if Craftsman didn't have Sears and now Kmart for distribution, I doubt they'd rank as high...

And the relative cost... hard to separate those factors out.

On the other hand, those are all convenience factors. Also, users like the craftsman tools. So all in all, they probably are number one for all those factors.

Not to mention, I really don't like Snap-on's franchise sales approach. Although snap-on's site does list their tools, and prices, so at least I don't have to corner a truck to buy a few. And I see eBay has a lot of their tools.
Maybe they deserve a try.

But a $162 bucks for a 6 piece set of end wrenches? egads.. you could make them out of gold-plated titanium for that.

Craftsman, stanely and husky are fine imho for anyone except a mechanic. I like mac and sk tools better than snap ons too.

Thus far I spent very little on my sockets and wrenches, wally world had clearanced some nice stanely combo wrenches in metric and sae and sams club sold a crescent branded socket and wrench set that has held up fine under some serius abouse. I have craftsman but thier prices are getting out of whack for what they give you..40 freaking dollars for a bunch of bolt off's?

As for channel lock, I had a set and then I bought husky brand vise grips, channel lock sized pliers and slip joint 8" pliers and all have heldup well.

Honestly most tools will holdup so long as they aint the junk stuff that costs next to nothing. I have more hand tools and tool related stuff than I can shake a stick at..

I would have thought Kobalt scored higher, I guess a lot of people dont realize that Kobalts, are a more economy set of tools and boxes produced by snap on, and also carry a lifetime warranty on all the tools.

They are produced by snap on but on different machines and share nothing with snap on tools themselves.

Kind of hard to vote. I have and use most of the tools listed at work. As far as the "truck" tools (Snap-On, Matco, etc.) The guy driving the truck has an effect on if I buy from him or the other guy. If he's going to be a @#&!, I'll buy from somebody else.

While they may or may not have anything in common, they still have a lifetime garuntee and are from a company such as Snap On, so it does give a relative peice of mind, even if they aren't "snap on" quality.

I don't mean to be picky, but the percentages don't add up to 100%... There's something screwy about this poll

3 votes per person brings it to 300%.

Maybe in a year or so I'll do the poll again, omitting those that didn't make above some cutoff, and adding the ones mentioned here that I didn't include, such as ChannelLock.

I think it is clear what the favorites are. My interpretation is that if money were no object, Snap-On would be the favorite. But overall price/performance, plus convenience of aquisition... goes to Craftsman.

It is possible Walmart/Stanley are making inroads. I checked them out as a result, but didn't buy any, because I didn't like the case options available. I need an idiot-proof case, as I've been careless putting tools away. My bad.
