In the future when you want to upgrade (and you will be wanting to) try and find a welder with a faster duty cycle. Preferably something in the 50%-60% range. Especially helpful in the fab dept.

hah, Freak, Buy the stuff and I could do my best...

Ok, So for the welding gurus...

I was doin good, Had a couple welds like this (forgot to get a brush)

Then I was looking at the polarity and it was backwards for self fluxed wire.

So i reversed it, And got welds like this...

Should I turn the polarity back the way it was or what..?

looks flat, going too fast maybe?
seems like flux likes to leave a butt-ton of spatter. i've seen that b4.
i leave the same polarity when i use flux, but i never learned to reverse it, i'll have to consult my father.......

So I put the polarity back to how it was and started getting used to the wire speed and the wind died down..
Threw down some nice phat beads...

straight polarity (gun +) used with gas shielded wire welds hotter than reversed polarity (gun -). usually when u ran fluxcore with straight polarity itll weld alright but throw more spatter and burn up lots of contact tips. running reversed polarity with gas shielded solidwire usually just makes a mess because of the lack of penetration

Ok so I was thinking...

Right now its got .035 flux cored in it..

If I got gas and regular wire, Would it be safe to assume that the welder would me melt it better..?

Should I stick with the flux cored and my angle grinder or get a bottle of gas and call it a day...
??

I couldnt get picks of the beads I ran tonight but they looked pretty decent, the dime roll wasnt exactly there but if you looked harder you could tell it was a pretty good weld

You wont get a dime roll with a flux cored welder. Maybe a faint outline of one. If i were you i would stick with the flux cored cause if you mig weld in the wind it will blow your sheilding gas away m'kay. My flux core welds are never pretty but they hold up just fine i've done spring hangers and winch plates no prob and mines smaller than yours
