well my home welder is a miller, millermatic 210.. 220V... i keep different size wire around but i usualy run .030 hardwire with 75/25 gas. i do most every thing with it... may i also suggest getting a decent welding mask.. people can say that its not worth the money to buy the spendy ones but ill tell ya that i now bring my miller pro elite autodarking home from work when i got projects. rather annoying when you get done welding and your eyes ache like crazy and are reaall sensitive to light lol

Run the wire through the single gang box wire up your 220 plug in, screw it all together and walla.
I will look into this...Since this is the one I want...http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...c_180_autoset/ it says it needs 230 input, would the above instructions be what i would need to do ?
And what do you guys think about that machine...its going to set my rents back a pretty penny, but im sure itll last me for 20 years...

Not to mention, the auto set on this would be bada$$, cause i cant remember all that stuff from HS

TC, I remember reading a thread somewhere where you said you and molly did that, only thing is here in cali they like to use gas..
and if anything i would use the dryer outlet (but again, here in cali we use gas..)

If you havent purchased yet let me HIGHLY recommend the Miller Passport Plus.......

That thing welds nice--really nice and has the settings needed to be used for XXX gauge/thickness material posted on the inside.

It is spendy but OH SO purdy and flexable.

I traded a detroit locker to have a guy wire me up a 220 and workshop lights---BUT if i need to i can run it off 120---or take it to a buds place and run it off 120........And it welds nice even at 120 AND HAS a 25 Minute Self Contained welding tank

IT IS NICE!!!! not trying to brag but I give this thing props!!

x2 for the Passport - welds with CO2 nicer than my Lincoln welds with mix. I didn't realize your budget included that ...

I just made a long extension cord to go from the stove outlet into the garage for the welder. Its ghetto, but it works.

What would be your opinion on longevity of said machine..?

Im largely factoring in longevity of a machine...
Hoping I can talk my mom into it...but idk.

I have a Lincoln 135SP 110v that I picked up last year from a guy on another board for $200. It's a great machine to learn on and you can use gas and flux core with it. For making sliders and bumpers it's fine but I wouldn't be using it for anything structural like a SAS or going to a 4 link.
Also get the correct clothing to weld. Just because you see people welding in flip flops doesn't mean you should.

nice find scoob, my millermatic is a 135A, 115V and i use it for everything with gas (i'm not a fan of fluxcore) small welder like that can handle bumpers, exhaust, light tabs.....lots of stuff.
the really heavy duty stuff gets welded with my dad's old AC Lincoln 225 stick welder. get a good helmet too, i tend to use the lighter end of the shade scale, #8 filter lense for my crappy eyes.

I took a few years of welding in HS too, my favorite was stick welding though.

Kool Kool, I cant wait to get started on my bumper

I was sitting in the truck on the way home and just kept thinking if I should use flux core or gas..
Maybe ill try a little of the flux first, This thing does have some no flux in it, So maybe ill just get the gas...

Now I just gotta figure out how to get it out of the back of the 4Runner..

WOOT

more expensive to get set up for gas, and you have to find somewhere that can fill it for you and rent you a bottle, get a regulator etc, but i think it is easier to weld with than flux.
get a bunch of replacement tips too.

now you can show off for all the Heeps and actually fab your own mods......

Its practically the same little welder..

Little bigger though, has a whopping 5 more amps..... (ithink)

You got yours for a steal of a deal though...

What size wire are you running?
I am having good luck with .035 intershield.
