I need a welder!

Does anybody have a welder that they could sell me?
I am having a hard time making my projects without being able to properly fuse metal together.
I am looking for something that is used so I can keep the cost down.
Something in the 250 or lower range... Hopefully.
Thanks for reading.

Chris,

Welders depreciate very little, if at all. You'll be lucky to find one for $500 if not closer to $600. Fyi...

FWIW, I had a Lincoln SP135 Plus that I bought about 11 years ago that I sold for $400 last fall. A used 175 will likely be $600+.

if all you are looking to do is build bumpers and easy stuff then a gasless mig like the cambell hausfeld welder works fine. it is 200 bucks at walmart. i wouldnt use it to do a SAS or to weld on sliders to my frame but i would feel more than comfortable making the sliders with it.
for bigger projects that a stronger weld is needed you will have to start dishing out the big bucks

we used a really cool little mig welder today ... i caught myself on fire, and jason caught his head-towel on fire. but the thing did a great job.

if you're going to weld ... sure hope you have a steady hand.

if you want to weld on the cheap, look at 220 stick machines. As far as a mig goes anything under a 175 is worthless IMHO but 99% of people don't need anything more than a 175.

Hobart 180 is a nice welder and about the cheapest MIG i would be happy owning. If you want a MIG, I would suggest saving for that.

Looking at Lincoln 175.

Ebay has them for under $500.
Does anybody have any experience with these?

Upgradable. Versatile. Durable. Why you think they call them "Lincoln" lockers when folks weld the rear end together. Lincoln is a good product.

Ditto to what waskillywabbit said. Lincoln is to welders what Toyota is to wheelin'

I bought a Lincoln 175+ several years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I am not sure about some of the welders on E-Bay. I bought mine from http://www.weldingmart.com and it was delivered in just a few days and shipping was free.

I know that it welds up to 3/16 metal. How hard would it be to weld to its max? Would the machine perform any different welding on the thickest metal that it could handle?

I plan on welding bumpers, sliders, and skid plates that would be up to 3/16.
Should I try to aim higher or go for the 175?

For what your trying to do a 175 amp machine should be plenty. It will weld up to 1/2" plate (in multiple passes) and should do 1/4" easliy. Anything over 175 amps and you better be welding 1/2" on a regualr basis.

Personally I'd be careful with Lincoln stuff, I've heard alot of negative reports regarding the longetivity or their machines...Here's a recent thread on Wattora:

I got a welder.

The lincoln 175pro.
Now I just have to get an extension cord so that I can run the 220 power that it needs.

Can't wait to use it!
