Piping is measured in nominal sizes...such as a 2" Pipe would have a I believe a 2.375" OD and then the ID would be based on the SCH. Tubing is measured as 2" OD etc...

A tube bender is just that, for tubing...not necessarily pipe. Tubing is for structural purposes and not intended generally as a pressure retaining structure. I know at work we have separate machines to bend tubing and pipe.

Yup, might want to look into the HF pipe bender to bend pipe. Unless Cebby is willing to fork over the $$$ for pipe dies.

I know JD2 has pipe dies, but I don't intend to buy any. I was thinking of possibly a square tube die, but I can't decide on a size....

After a slight delay due to some wiring confusion (cryptic schematic on pump), it is up and running.

Right click and "save as"

320 x 240 (3mb)

640 x 480 (17mb)

You're right, I knew this would come up. I generally use pipe for the applications I work with (fuel lines for emergency generators and aviation fueling systems). So, I guess what wabbit is saying we don't want to beta test your tubing bender using my pipe . Well at least I have a couple of sources for tubing and I may have some random pieces laying around.

What is the best O.D. for sliders and tube bumpers?

You can use whatever you want.

I think you see a combo of 1.75 and 1.5 usually. I'll have to EM you some of the sketches I've done.

You mostly see bumpers/sliders/exos etc using tubing that is 1 1/2" to 2" O.D., sometime larger, that is 0.120" wall. Some use HREW, some use DOM...depends on the application and budget!

I've been tied up. I'll have something formal together in a week or two.

For the pump, cylinder, valve- see Jay K's writeup at the beginning of this thread.

JD2 Model 3 arms and dies.

6" ship channel - 5' (main beam)

1 1/2" x 2" rectangular tube - 1/8" wall - 12' or so (legs)

3/8" plate x 6 x 48 (top plate)

1/2" solid bar stock (die storage)

1" square tube x 6' +/- (die storage)

1" angle x 9' +/- (pump shelf)

Expanded Steel (pump shelf)

1" Bolts (5" and 7" I think), nuts, washers

I'll get the detail on the hoses and fittings up soon. Jay K's wasn't right for my application.

A little something I've been meaning to do.... got the parts

I'm making a modification to the bender. Due to how difficult to it is to remove the center die pin, I've decided to drill out the die pivot hole in the arms (both the stationary and movable arms) for a 1 1/4" bushing. This should eliminate some of the binding I'm experiencing (when trying to remove the pin). I don't have a bit this big, so I'm having a buddy (who has a metal shop) enlarge the holes for me.

Here's the bushings:

McMaster Carr
P/N 7815K56
Alloy 932(SAE 660)BRNZ Flanged-Sleeve Bearing, For 1" Shaft Diameter, 1-1/4" Od, 1" Length

Here's the bushing installed. I need to run my 1" drill bit down through the hole in the bushing. Seems to be a hair too tight to get the pin in.

Well, the writeup is done (FINALLY!!). I used this to learn a bunch about web programming. Bear with me, the fancy shmancy designs will come eventually...

Someone over on TOOLandFAB asked for some dims, so I thought I'd share if anyone is interested in making something similar...

Note, my top plate and channel are different lengths - but are flush at the bender arm end. I also included dims of the notch on my top plate to clean the arm bolt when retracted.
Click image for the huge version...
