Esab 875-a

I have an ESAB 875-A plasma cutter. And let me just tell you, this machine is amazing. It is rated to cut 13/16" at almost 18 inches a minute...so far all I have been cutting with it is 3/8" and thinner, down to 1/16" sheet metal, and it cuts through that like a heated knife through butter, literally, it even looks like it, since it metals the metal so fast. I have to work on it and practice to maintain really good cuts and straight lines, but this will come with practice. The machine runs off of 208/230 1 or 3 phase...initially setup for 1phase...I live in an older house with only one 250v plug, the one for the dryer, and it is an old nema 10-30 style plug, after heading over to home depot and picking up a 13 dollar plug I was able to quickly wire up the power cord and get it working...with the compressor running at 70 psi, and the current set at 50 amps, it has a 100% duty cycle, at 60 amps it only has 60%...I was able to cut for a good 2 hours with the only stops being to reposition myself or the metal i was cutting. I do recommend having a good open work area, and to make sure you pay attention to what is surrounding the work area, because it shoots a whole lot of sparks out the other side...now this may not be a problem if you are cutting metal off the side of a table...but the piece I have was standing upright and so I was hitting pretty much everything in my garage with sparks...even started my chair on fire...so be careful...my initial review of this tool....EXCELLENT!

I have the same one. Works great, but not as nimble as I had hoped. For example cutting brackets off an axle and hoping to reuse them I still break out the grinder with cutoff wheel.

Glad you like it, i see too many of them fail though (I work repairing plasma cutters and welders) and it's not as practical as a Hypertherm. All in all it's not a bad machine.

yeah, i have found that although the machine runs great and works amazingly well for what i need, I still find myself using a cutoff wheel on my angle grinder as well, sometimes it is just quicker that way, also not having to have two machine to and a ground and a bunch of hoses and wires , makes using the angle grinder a lot easier, however, as I practice keeping straighter lines the plasma cutter is going to be invaluable once I start cutting thicker metals...

Red face

What are you cutting that you can`t clamp a piece of angle as a cutting guide.

I have a plasma cutter that I never use it is just easier to use the torch and old habits are hard to break.

I have a PCM-750, great machine also. Wish I had the money for one of Esabs newer plasmas that can cut 1" plate like butter.....
