22r engine bolt kit
Not sure if I am posting in the right forum, but here goes.
This is more of a site review than a product review.
While rebuilding my 22r, and wanting new bolts etc, i ran across this site's products here:
http://www.mmsacc-stainless.com/html/misc_eng_kits.htm ENGINE BOLT KIT
and
http://www.mmsacc-stainless.com/html..._stud_kits.htm HEADER STUD KIT
The kits didn't take too long to arrive. 2 days via priority mail. When i got them the first thing i noticed is all the bags were labeled for each component which I already know prior to ordering. ( I didnt label any of the old bolts because of this, Big mistake !!! read on....)
Problem #1
The header bolts were the first to go in. Hmmmm the bolts supplied were 8mm X 1.25 X 70mm. Too small in diameter and about 10mm too long. After making a phone call back to them, they said they sent the right ones and they had no complaints about them not being the correct ones. That's funny I told them, I know its not my stock head and its not this brand new that i have sitting here. (maybe they were for the 84-85 headers??) I went and got the old ones and gave them the info they needed to ship out the new ones. They want me to pay to send the wrong ones back and they will credit my card. Got the new ones in 4 days after they sent via snail mail. They seen to be right, however the header is still welded onto the exhaust still sitting in the truck. So I can't be certain.
Problem #2:
Timing cover bolts. Well 4 missing. The 10mm X 1.25 bolts were NOT a part of the kit. After calling them back they said noone makes the fine thread 10mm bolts in stainless. I said you are selling this kit stating it includes the timing cover bolts, but it doesnt include the 4 main bolts? The other 8 X 1.25 X ?? bolts were all the same length???? Another dissapointment since the stock ones are almost all different lengths.
Problem #3:
Oil pump bolts. Two of the longer ones were too short to even make 3 threads into the block. I wound up using one these for the longer water pump bolt.
Problem #4:
Water pump bolts. The longer bolt was too short and two of the 6mm bolts were missing. Had to search for the longer watrer pump bolt to give them the size. Since none of them were labeled.
Problem #5:
Carburetor bolts. Came with a bunch of washers and two bolts. NO STUDS. ??? Wound up sending new studs to me based on the studs i had to search for since nothing was labeled.
Problem #6:
Fuel pump bolts. They were too short to make it into the head with the spacer atached. I used some of the shorter ones in the timing cover kit and used the fuel pump ones in the timing cover.
Problem #6:
Water outlet bolts. A little short for my liking but wound up using them anyway.
Problem #7:
Intake manifold bolts. All were there but, only 1 stud I am guessing for the EGR???? the rest were bolts. Missing the 2 stock studs.
Over all I am unhappy with this kit and stated that to the person on the phone which was rude in saying well you can send them back for a refund. I said I am in the middle of an engine rebuild obviously and need to get this up and running ASAP. She basically said they do up their kits by having somone bring a motor in and "copy" the bolts off the motor. Hmmm with as ma ny problems with this kit I am begining to wonder if the motor was either rebuild from jasper or something like that or someone doesnt know how to use a tape measure, pay attention to detail or are just plain incompetent.
STAY AWAY FROM BUYING THIS OR ANY OTHER KIT FROM MMS & ACCESSORIES !!!!!!!!
