superstition run photos and stories
alright dont have any pics yet but it sure was a fun run when we all met up in the sand bowl i tried to look for a way down the backside and i could not come back so i linked up with the jeeps and we run a burly rock trail it took us like 3 hours to go 0.6 miles........ i have a ton of body damage i broke my inner fenderwell which made my battery spit out and land on the powersteering pump(no damage to the battery) and i pretty much smoked my clutch.....it was a fun day im sorry alot of us got seperated but the general consensus is that everyone had a pretty good time...... post your pics fellas

No pics here either.
I followed mikey down and eventually met up with the jeep group. I only made it to the first obstacle and crushed the left side of my bumper. I took a quick look up the rest of the trail and determined it was getting worse, so I got out of line while I still could and not hold up anyone else.
Then we just went back to the dunes and screwed around until I noticed I had gear oil leaking from behind my brakes on the passenger side.
So now I've got to replace that rear seal and probably the brakes, again.
And take off my bumper and try to hammer out the dent.
I just wish I got to do more on the trails to warrant these repairs.
What was with this trip?
Everyone getting separated (I think there were like 4 different groups by 10 am) all the damage/mechanical failure. We were back in camp by 2 or 3pm(then Jim Beam reared his ugly head) and I was ready to split after dinner.
I don't even remember seeing some of those trucks in the pics. Why did all the stockers/2wd bail so early?
ok here is some pics-

I've already posted some pics in the first thread.
Overall the trip was a blast. The turnout was cool but it was almost impossible to keep everyone together because of the terrain, communication and differences in rigs.
It was my fault for the friday night camp mixup. I'm sure some better planning will fix that next time. Saturday morning it was fun playing around the dunes with everyone but when Matt found out about his 4wd and Peter showed up I was seperated from the group while I was meeting up wtih them. I felt bad that they were 2wd and unfamiliar with the terrain (heck im still unfamiliar).
After that I met up with Seth, Jim and crew and we headed over to Wrangler canyon but after I checked my gps tracks from the last trip I was a few canyons off. The canyon started out ok but then kept getting harder and harder. Zach and I chose to keep going. While everyone esle turned around. Jim and Wrangler Matt chose to spot us. We only managed to get another few hundred feet before he unsplined his axle and rebent his tie-rod. I definately want to head back to the canyon. It can be done with armor all around (since its pretty tight) and a rear locker. I think I could have made it all the way but im not sure where it ends up, but it does head strait to sand dam.
Not sure why everyone took off. Heading back to camp I got kinda frustrated since the paved road we were on was heading further and further into the bombing range and the shortest distace back to camp were over the "green sticker" badlands. Sorry guys for loosing you out there.
I'm sure once we get more familiar with the area we can start planning a bit more efficiently and catering to the abilities of who show up.

We got a little lost on the way back too. We ended up following the paved road back anyway, through the bombing are and went up to the biggest radio tower to get back to san dam...failed
The we went down the paved road to the next radio tower.....failed
so we went along the power lines and things looked familiar...back through sand dam and made it home.
I had a good time wheeling, but I really missed all of the crew. Next time, let's have a 2wd and stock crew if it gets that big and then an equipped run.
I would have continued with you josh if I had more armor, but I took my ding as a notice. I f I got damage, the stockers were doomed!!!!

I think it was the unorganized part that annoyed me the most. Haveing people go in every direction with no direction put people in positions they shouldn't have been put in.
Having Josh lead a group of people with little or no experience up a difficult trail he wasnt familiar with was bad. People got lost like Smiling Jim.
Next event I go to will be more organized and planned---AND NO 50's RUNNING AROUND THE CAMPSITE WITH DRUNKEN FOOLS!!!!!

dings wait till the sun comes out tommorow and i'll take some pics of some dings. next time we will definately have to be more organized, i figured with the size of the group and the differences in rigs we would have some problems keeping everyone stoked. now that everyone is a little familiar with the area, we can plan better....

nice vids
I should have posted mine here, but I didn't see this page at that time. Oh yeah and it actually works now. The music goes with the Spring Break theme, but I couldn't get either of the Coreys to show up. Damn!

This trip was way fun. Us stockers had to head out early because we had a frat event Saturday night so we had to make it back in time for the ladies. Chillen with all you guys was awesome we learned so much stuff considering we didn't know much about offroading. Saturday was tight, the dunes were wild and the washes with rocks weren't too bad either. I should have known to disconnect the front sway bar but I didn't so I had to replace the link and for that rock that popped out of nowhere and smashed my running board, that definately could have been avoided. Other than that the weekend was tight, but I agree it would have been better if we were all together on Friday night also. Thanks everyone, here are some pics we got...

No Worry's on this trip...
It was fun wheeling with Josh, Zach, Pat, Matt and that crew. I have a new mostly stock truck, but i am an experienced wheeler, and knew when to park it, and offer to spot the hard core guys.
I got lost on the way back 'cause I didn't want to go 50+ with 10 PSI. I like speed, but wanted to keep the tires alive. I copied a map from my Delorme Atlas. They are a buck each for color at Kinkos. If we put some landmarks and GPS trackpoints on the amp and make copies for the crew that would help a bunch. My dash mounted compass would have got me back to the campsite, if I had the map.
Looking forward to the next trip...

I'm not blaming anyone for anything. Sometimes &#%@ happens. I had a decent time considering I spent most of my time alone dicking around at camp or racing around back to camp.
Keep in mind it's a blog too, kinda IMO diary type stuff I guess.
