Martinez Cabin Run...in the Rain (52 Pics)

So G4 headed out to Martinez Cabin near Florence, AZ. The day started off cold and drizzly, which made things interesting on the trail.

The "Moderate" Section of the trail...

Full Stuff...

Brian prepares to slide down the mud chute...

Keep 'er straight...

Safely down

Here's a great depiction of the [lack] of traction we were experiencing... Look at all of that red mud!

My turn to slide my rig like a toboggan...

KEEP THE WHEELS POINTED STRAIGHT!!! All I was doing was sliding - I couldn't even tell where my wheels were pointing!

Made it down safely! :bigclap:

Now let's try our luck going UP the chute...on racing slicks!

I didn't make it much further than this...no traction with all that mud caked on my tires. E-locker couldn't even save me this time around

Later on, my dad high-centers his Explorer and he has to get a tug backwards. We then parked his rig off to the side and then continued the last 0.3 mi to the Martinez Cabins...

Lunchtime

My favorite shot of the day...on the way out of the entrance of the canyon.

Cool pics! Dang, that looks wet and sloppy! Your dad is crazy in his Exploder! He takes that thing just about everywhere .

Have fun power-washing all that clay off the undercarriage! :pat:

Great pics and looks like a fun time.

But how do you get mud?
I thought AZ was a rain free state

That red mud is something, looks like clay almost.

I know, he really does very well for always being the guy with the least amount of clearance and the smallest tires! Today the trail got to be too much for him though. Even I got stuck on the way out, just a few hundred yards from the cabins. I had 3 guys jumping on my rear bumper to help get me off some rocks so that my tires would bite. I think at least 4 of the 6 rigs incurred some sort of light carnage on this run. It just made it so much more difficult being wet. But it was a blast!

Very nice pictures! Looks like so much fun.
How did you feel overall about your Nitto TG's? Also, is Brain a member here? His rig is sick!

I'm still very happy with my Terra Grapplers - I love 'em. Once they wear out, I would certainly consider a more aggressive mud tire though.

That's Brian Rishaw's rig. You can find him here on Yotatech as rebelnoclu

Man that looks awesome. The red clay sucks, I did Broken Arrow after some snow and it sucked. I will have to do that run after I finish my Jeep.

What about the trail? ...the Toyotas could make the trail, not sure about the rest. Although, just to the cabin looked fun in the rain.

The trail starts at the cabins.

Looks like the Poop Chute has changed.

Hmmm...I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but to clarify, the Martinez Cabin trail is the easy part. As I understand it, from the cabins, you can continue into the canyon and will be running the Martinez Canyon trail, which is rated as difficult. That's where the luge is, not to be confused with the chutes that we were playing on.

ABQ_Jim means people usually race into the cabins and then wheel the Canyon.

The luge is in the Canyon on the trail. The chutes y'all were in is a play area we usually do before Woodpecker or after Martinez Canyon.

The rain still gets me.

Rain? Try snow! There was snow in the mountains just east of Mesa.
