Post Land between the lakes KY TN Jan. 1, 2007 trip *newbie*

Besides my backyard I haven't taken my Tacoma four wheeling except for today. Since I am a newbie you experienced guys may wish to bypass this thread.

Since today was a Holiday I had to drive a ways to get a permit ($15 for 3 days) from Wranglers campground). We spent about 1.5 hours on the trails before we had to leave. It would have been fun to stay longer.

Land Between the lakes has a lot of campgrounds and horse riding trails. There is also a very large OHV area. Not sure the exact size, but one website I looked at said the OHV area is around 2500 acres. Mainly it is used by motorcycles and 4 wheel atv's. They have a lot of rules too.

They have a large herd of buffalo as well. These were close to the fence and since the kids have never seen one before we stopped and took their picture.

Here is the Turkey Bay beach area.

Had the wife take a picture of the stream crossing. Yeah, I went around and picked her up so she didn't get wet.

Nice hill.

Basically just easy novice stuff mainly we rode on the yellow trails(easy). Besides I think my truck was the only real vehicle out there. It may have sucked big time to get stuck and have to wait for someone to pull me out of a bad situation since I don't have a winch. There were lots of good looking hard trails that would be fun to try if I had time and someone to pull me out.

I was feeling down about my goodyear mtr tires I have, but they seemed to do pretty good on the mud and terrain I encountered today.

Here are a couple of links from a jeep website concerning Turkey Bay trail riding.

Jeep guys pics and planning threads

That brings back memories, years ago (1990 to 1992) I lived down there on hwy 79 about 10 miles west of Clarksville just across from the suchon D.Z. at Ft. Campbell. We would go trail riding at Land between the Lakes and on Ft. Campbell military res.. Had a 1985 fourrunner stock. Wished I still had it but the ex-wife rolled it in 1998 part of the reason for the divorce!!!!!!
P.S go the 1850s farm up there the kid will love it, and sometimes they have music too.

If you plan another trip to LBL, post it up on YT. I know I'm interested in going. I'm sure there's some others too.

The other park mentioned looks like a good time too.

bob200587, if you click the www.itsajeep.com link they have a forum for people who go out to lbl and when. There is at least one other tacoma on that jeep site who goes out there with them. Some are planning to go out there this weekend but I can't make it.

If you call #270 924-2000 and hit opt. 3 they have a recording telling whether or not the trails are closed. Or you can call the rangers at one of the stations.

Golden pond info station- #270-924-2233
Wranglers camp ground(for holidays and when golden pond station is closed) #270-924-2201

If anyone didn't follow the links in the first post it costs $15/three day pass and $60 for an annual pass (all passengers ride free!), but they expire at the end of March each year.
So lbl is definately a bargain compared to private parks.

The park was fairly muddy on the First but they didn't close it... There were lots of mud holes, but the rules of the park state no mudding...They must only close if they get several inches or several consecutive days of rain which saturate the soil.

I live in Lone Oak, I was going to Paddy's on Sunday but decided too much rain so didn't make it. I plan on going in 2 weeks hopefully. My 60 does pretty good but really needed a winch to make it out of some of the walls in a creek at paddy's. I have a video I hope to post sometime.
Thanks

I live off of jewell ln. on otherside of 45. I have not been to Turkey in years, I almost went to the FJ thing but didn't make it. I would like to get one but would rather have a convertible one. Hopefully toyota will build one. I just like to ride around not get crazy like you buddy. I am going to post a video on you tube of one of our trips. I am not in it much due to getting seperated from group with camcorder but it shows some cool toyota trucks go through the deep mud.
